JASPER FFORDE (with Jane Rawson)
JASPER FFORDE AT EMBIGGEN BOOKS FRIDAY 6.30PM 4TH MARCH
RSVP: events (at) embiggenbooks (dot) com
Edit: Sorry we are completely booked out for this event. The waiting list is also very long.
Some of our Embiggen regulars will know that a number of us here in the shop are former film industry people. Now it turns out that our next author featuring with us is also suffering from film career fallout. Having his industry career start as a runner, Fforde then worked his way up to become a cameraman for films like Goldeneye, The Mask of Zorro and Entrapment. During his last years in the industry he spent every spare moment writing. While he initially aimed for a career as a script writer he soon realised that his writing was to take him down a different path (basically writing scripts is not as much fun as writing short stories and novels). Upteen rejections from publishers helped him learn his craft. Instead of university and writing courses to teach him, he used the rejection letters of publishers and agents to improve his techniques and find his ‘voice’.
Now many years later Jasper inspires intense loyalty from fans and has become a prolific author writing across multiple genres and has assumed the unofficial Douglas Adams mantle of ingenious comedic scifi extending it into crime, YA and who knows-where-else.
Come and see Jasper at Embiggen Books on the 4th of March at 6.30pm. Places strictly limited (because space is finite and our shop even more so). RSVP essential: events at embiggenbooks dot com or call 9662 2062. BOOKED OUT. Look forward to seeing you there. BREAKING NEWS: Jasper will be joined in conversation by Melbourne’s own Jane Rawson, author of the most excellent novel A Wrong Turn at the Office of Unmade Lists which has been called Australia’s most underrated novel. If you’re a fan of Jane’s writing like we are you’ll know why having her in conversation with Jasper is such a great thing! See you there!
